Revitalising the Inspectorates online presence

Introduction

Comgem is a digital media agency who specializes in combining cutting edge technology, with award winning creativity and results driven marketing. Welsh inspectorate, Estyn, approached Comgem to redesign and maintain its website, when their previous web provider ceased trading.

The Estyn website was becoming dated in its design and the inspectorate needed a web agency they could rely who could help with their ongoing maintenance programme.

Situation

The previous site had been developed some years ago, and was becoming dated in its design. Despite a rebrand, the website, didn’t fully support the inspectorates brand values.

In addition to a dated design, the inspectorate was experiencing increasing difficulty with updating the website, this presented a major problem given the inspectorate duty to publish its reports for public access.
Given the problems with the website, the inspectorate recognized they needed a company who could take care of the design and updates for them, and this is when they approached us.

Solution

Estyn approached a handful of web development companies to help with the project. However it was our strong technical and creative skills that really stood out.

Given the situation they needed an agency who would rapidly pick up the workings of the existing system, which was developed using Microsoft technologies. They also wanted an agency who would freshen up their website design, and make their website more personal and approachable.

Implementation

The main issue was understanding the existing content management system and analyzing the impact of adding more advanced functionality on the system, but also identifying the most effective way of integrating the new website design.

Once we had gained a thorough understanding of the existing solution we were able to come up with a suitable design that could be integrated into the existing solution, as well as adding the more advanced functionality that included a staff only area and simplifying the search facility on the website.

In addition to providing our design and development services, we provide an ongoing maintenance contract to Estyn. This provides added flexibility and web support when they most need it.

Results

Since releasing the new website in the middle of January, initial feedback has been highly positive, with website visitors finding the site more inviting and more personable, demonstrating a fresh image of the Inspectorate.
